Overview

Mahindra has rendered a rather deliberate boxy look to the SUV that to some extent defines its nomenclature 'Tough Utility vehicle'. TUV300 cabin gets good quality plastic and material along with almost all the vital features inset for occupants comfort. Moreover, the availability of an automated manual transmission brings the SUV above others in the segment. The Mahindra TUV300 is available in a total of fourteen variants across two states of tune.

The standard mHawk80 is available in the T4, T4+, T6, T6+, T8 and T8 AMT trims, while the mHawk100 is being offered only in the T8, T8 AMT, T10, T10 AMT options. Mahindra also offers the dual-tone option in TUV300 with a contrasting gloss black finished roof. Mahindra TUV 300 is accessible in 8 different colours - Black and Red, Black and Silver, Bold Black, Dynamo Red, Majestic Silver, Molten Orange, Pearl White, Bronze Green.

Exterior

Mahindra has used the length to its fullest at 3995 mm, while the car is quite wide at 1835 mm and that reflects in the cabin too. The SUV incorporates a battle tank that has inspired its styling and the effect is certainly seen on the exterior. The TUV300 looks functional but quite urban as well, taking inspiration from old school British and American SUVs. The SUV's vertically stacked front grille is reminiscent of its Mahindra roots, while the squared wheel arches and fog lamp enclosures are elements that stand out.

The Mahindra TUV300's design is boxy and it has blacked-out D-pillars too. The spare wheel is mounted on the tailgate that adds on the SUV styling. Mahindra TUV300 can be accessed in various colours which include Black and Red, Black and Silver, Bold Black, Dynamo Red, Majestic Silver, Molten Orange, Pearl White, Bronze Green.

Interior

The extremely spacious cabin of Mahindra TUV300 is quite pleasing to the eye and the layout looks minimalistic and quite premium as well. The cabin is finished in a dual-tone black and beige shades that lend an airy feel. The top trims get fabric-upholstered seats, while the base variants get vinyl ones. The SUV uses a twin pod instrument cluster that is easy to read and also has a gear position indicator. All variants of the Mahindra TUV300 get power steering with tilt function, front and rear power windows and an air conditioning unit. The top variants also come with steering mounted audio controls, remote lock and keyless entry. The SUV comes with follow-me-home headlamps as well as mobile charging points for the first and second rows. The Mahindra TUV300 gets a 2+3+2 seating layout.

Performance

Under the hood, the Mahindra TUV300 uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder diesel engine with a two-stage turbocharger that is a heavily reworked version of the one found on the Quanto. The new oil burner has been badged as 'mHawk' and is available in two states of tune. The TUV300 was originally launched as the mHawk80 in 2015 with the engine tuned to produce 84 bhp of power at 3750 rpm and 230 Nm of peak torque available between 1500-2250 rpm. On the other hand, the AMT version has power reduced to 81 bhp at 3750 rpm. The performance is a lot better on the TUV300 mHawk100 and feels more responsive as well.  Both powertrain options come paired to a 5-speed Manual Transmission as well as a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) unit, co-developed by Mahindra and Ricardo.

Safety and Security

Safety features on the Mahindra TUV300 include dual airbags on most variants, while the base trims get it as optional. The SUV also gets ABS with EBD on most trims, which is missed on the base T4 trim. The top trims get ISOFIX mounts for child seats in the second row along with a digital immobilizer, seatbelt reminder lamp, auto door lock while driving and anti-theft warning. Disc brakes in front and drum brakes at rear perform respective duties. Airbags are available in front for the driver. Other features like immobilizer, central locking etc are also incorporated.
