Overview

The design of India's only an all-electric hatchback Mahindra e2o is contemporary and although its footprint feels a bit smaller than the other cars The revive feature gives an additional range of 7 to 10 kms in case the battery power slips below 10%. The feature can either be activated via e20 Plus app on your smart phone or by touch of a button. The mobile app also hosts other features like switching on/off the car's air conditioning and even locking/unlocking the car. Mahindra e2o Plus gets a drive mode selector, which includes reverse, neutral, forward and boost. The electric hatchback takes 9 hours for one full charge. The hatchback is presented in three variants: P4, P6 and P8. Mahindra e2o Plus is accessible in four vibrant colours - Coral Blue, Sparkling Wine, Arctic Silver and Solid White.

Exterior

Mahindra e2o Plus comes with a fairly conventional tall-boy design. It is 310 mm longer, 61 mm wider and 25 mm taller than the 2-door e2o. The wheelbase is 300 mm longer than the 2-door sibling. The all-electric hatchback flaunts an all-new front grille, which is flanked by projector headlamps. The same pair of headlamps also does duties to the e2o. The side profile gets a unique glasshouse while the rear-end boasts of a new roof-mounted spoiler and vertical tail-lamp cluster.

Interior

There is adequate legroom for the front as well as rear occupants and headroom is also appreciable. E2o Plus features include an electric power steering, power windows, reverse camera, electronically-adjustable exterior mirrors, keyless go and Smart Phone app connectivity. The seats offer decent comfort, while the boot space at 135 litre could have been improved. The dashboard features a Blaupunkt touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto. The centre console houses rotary air vents and a digital instrument cluster. The most significant features inside are GPS enabled navigation system, touch-screen monitor and on-board computer that warns about car's driving range.

Performance

Mahindra e2o Plus is powered by a 210AH lithium-ion battery, which generates the maximum power of 25 BHP at 3500 rpm and peak torque of 70 Nm at 1000 rpm. However, the same battery develops 40 BHP of top power at 3500 rpm and 91 Nm of highest torque at 2000 rpm with the top-end P8 variant. The battery is linked to a direct drive transmission, which is not a conventional gearbox as it has no clutch. The hatchback comes with Regenerative Braking Technology (first in India), which charges the battery whenever the brakes are applied. The range-topping P8 variant does 0-60 kmph sprint in less than 10 seconds, while clocking a top speed of 85 km. The other variants take 14 seconds to reach 60 kmph mark from standstill, while having a top speed of 80 kmph. Under the Hood, 280 AH lithium-ion battery powers Mahindra e2o Plus delivering the maximum power of 20.8 PS along with 70 Nm of maximum torque.

Mahindra e2o Plus is developed for city driving and serves the purpose decently. The suspension setup is pretty nice and absorbs the majority of bumps. However, large obstacles at higher speeds do make their presence felt despite the well-tuned suspension. The handling is quite amazing due to the small turning radius of 4.35 m and electric power steering. Like other pure electric vehicles, all variants of the car come with automatic/direct drive, so there is no need for a traditional gearbox. The direct drive gearbox with two forward modes has been used by the Mahindra to channelize the power to the wheels.

Safety and Security

Mahindra e2o Plus has disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. The hatchback gets hill assist feature which prevents it from slipping backward or forward on a slope. The company is not offering airbags or ABS even on the top variant.
