Hyundai Verna has always been a prominent player in the mid-sized sedan segment in the Indian market. The South-Korean automaker has introduced the next-gen Verna sedan with new styling and sophisticated features to regain the lost ground. The new sedan comes in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with manual as well as automatic transmission. It has been offered in four trim levels - E, EX, SX, and SX (O). The 2017 Hyundai Verna is based on a new architecture, while flaunting a new design and boasting of several first-in-segment features.
Hyundai Verna comes with sweptback projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) and chrome cascade front grille with horizontal chrome slats. The sedan also gets projector fog lamps, while the side profile reflects the perfect amalgamation of sportiness and elegance. The high-end variants rides on 5-spoke 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, while the lower variants come with 15-inch silver wheels. For the rear end, it gets two-piece LED tail lamp cluster, shark fin antenna and dual-tone bumper with black inserts. In fact, the drag coefficient is as low as 0.308 which makes it way more aerodynamic than before. The sedan comes with a boot space of 480 litres, which is nearly 30 litres more than the preceding model.
The Hyundai Verna's cabin is finished in dual-tone black and beige upholstery, while it carries several first-in-segment features. The standout features of the new sedan include ventilated front seats which can be turned colder during hot summer days. The 'Smart Trunk' feature gets a special mention as the boot automatically gets unlocked and locked when the driver stays within 1-metre range for more than 3 seconds with Smart key. For infotainment, the next-gen Verna boasts of a 7.0-inch Audio/Video/Navigation (AVN) touchscreen system, which also serves as rear view camera and is compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror link. For first-in-segment stuff, we also have an Arkamys-developed Smart Surround System with 6-speakers for the first time in Verna sedan. Other premium features include FATC with Cluster Ionizer, Electric Sunroof, Rear AC Vents, Voice Recognition, 3.5-inch Mono TFT-LCD instrument cluster, Rear adjustable headrest, Sliding front centre console armrest, Cruise Control, Engine Start/Stop button, Hyundai Auto Link etc.
The 2017 Hyundai Verna comes in both petrol and diesel fuel trims with the same set of engines. The petrol variants are powered by a 1.6L Gamma Dual VTVT engine which generates maximum power of 121bhp at 6400rpm and peak torque of 151Nm at 4850rpm. It can be availed with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. For the diesel variants, they get their power from a 1.6L U2 CRDi engine which belts out 126bhp at 4000rpm and 260Nm between 1500-3000rpm.
Safety and Security
The next-gen Hyundai Verna gets disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear. In addition, it is laced with a plethora of exceedingly reliable braking systems such as Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) as standard features. The body structure of the new sedan is developed with 50 percent of Advanced High Strength Steel, which is an additional increase of 37 percent over the preceding model. For the safety of occupants, the 2017 Verna comes several avant-garde features in form of 6-airbags, front projector fog lamps, ISOFIX (Child Restraint System), Impact sensing Auto Door Lock, Cornering Lamps, Reverse Parking Sensors, and Reverse Parking Camera.
