Overview

Datsun Redi-GO is a budget car with limited feature list that includes body-coloured bumpers, daytime running LED lights (segment-first) and wheel covers. Redi-GO is available in five variants-D, A, T, T (O) and S with a choice of 799cc petrol engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Datsun has launched a limited edition variant of Redi-GO with cosmetic upgrades on the outside and inside. The 'Sport' limited edition is available at an additional premium of Rs 15,000 over the top-spec S variant.

Datsun Redi-GO is accessible in 5 different colours - Grey, Silver, White, Ruby Red and Lime. Cosmetic additions made to the exterior include themed grille with red accents, finished wheel cover, roof spoiler, race decals across the bonnet and roof. Additionally, the limited version comes with rear parking sensor, remote keyless entry and Bluetooth audio system among several others. 

Exterior

The tall boy design philosophy works well for this small car. The face is styled aggressively with long pulled back headlamps, hexagonal grille with honey comb mesh and chrome surrounding. Side profile is accentuated by sharp lines and flared wheel arches. Rear gets boomerang shaped tail lights and chrome garnish on the boot lid. The edgy design, especially the front-end with sloping hood that extends into the hexagonal grille gives it a youthful appeal. The headlights look nice too, especially with their split design.

Interior

The beige dashboard gets multiple cubby holes along with the standard glove-box. The quality of plastic used inside and other materials are average, but Datsun has provided various storage points like cup-holder, bottle holder, cubby holes and door pockets. The instrument console gets a big dial for the speedometer in the centre and a multi-function display to read out the vitals. Power windows in the front are offered with the T(O) and S trims whereas the rear gets manual fobs across the entire trims. The company has tried hard to come up with a modish looking dashboard and centre console, but it doesn't manage to impress. Boot space is relatively less at 222-litres as compared to Kwid that offers a capacious luggage compartment. Cabin is comfortable with the space point of view.

Performance

The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine in Datsun Redi-GO produces 68PS of max power and 91Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are taken care by the five-speed manual transmission which is missing in the AMT unit.  It's much easier to drive in the city and requires fewer downshifts to pick up the pace. It delivers a fuel efficiency of 22.5kmpl as per the new ARAI test cycle. The 800cc petrol engine is quite frugal in nature and claims an excellent mileage of 25.17kmpl closely similar to its French cousin Renault Kwid.

With H-shaped torsion beam having double pivot arm suspension system, the car drives with a good balance. The claimed mileage of 25.17kmpl by the 800cc petrol engine ensures low running cost and saving on the fuel expenses. It offers a plusher ride as compared to sporty handling. The ride is thus comfortable as one would expect of a car in this segment, aided by the new suspension setup at both ends which helps in absorbing potholes easily. The steering isn't too precise and the car tends to under steer when pushed hard around corners. The tall-boy design also tends to cause body roll. Redi-GO engine mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, power output and claimed mileage is similar to Kwid but there is a noticeable difference in the performance.

Safety and Security

The top-end variant of Datsun Redi-GO features driver side airbags as well. Along with this, the car gets disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear to give driver a confident drive. Anti-lock-braking system is missing from the model series. Driver side airbag is standard on the top-spec variant missing out on the rest of line-up. Besides driver side airbag, the hatchback also gets three point seat belts in front & rear, two point seat belts in rear central, rear door child safety lock and immobilizer. The hatchback gets a handful of comfort features like power windows in front power windows, speed sensitive electronic power steering, air conditioner, bottle & cup holder and accessory socket etc.
