Volkswagen Tiguan launched in India at Rs.27.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi)

The Volkswagen Tiguan has been launched in India at Rs.27.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tiguan crossover miss out on petrol engine and is available only in diesel. It will be offered in two trims – comfortline and highline.

The Tiguan SUV is 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 1,672 mm tall. The dimensions speak about its boldness and rigidity making it a proper SUV. The wheels are placed with difference of 2,677 mm in between. It has ground clearance of 149 mm which is not much high for a crossover to stand above the ground but bigger tyres with 18” alloy wheels balance it out. The fuel tank has a capacity of 71-litres which makes it apt for long journeys.

From outside, the front face has a Volkswagen long and sleeked chrome grille with a dual-tone bumper. It gets LED tail lamps and headlamps with DRL in the front. It also has cornering lights which makes enough visibility while turning. The tyres are big with 18” alloy wheels and self-sealing system.

The ORVM are electrically adjustable with memory function. On the sides, it has illuminated scuff plates and chrome window surround. The tailgate is easy to access with one-touch close function. The Tiguan is equipped with heat insulating glass which will protect the Indian buyers from the heat in summers. It also has reverse camera with steering guide.

The Volkswagen Tiguan gets “Vienna” leather seats and are electrically adjustable with memory function. The instrument cluster has two meters with premium multi-function display. It has automatic climate control with 3 zone AC. The Tiguan gets a drive mode selector and keyless entry with push button start/stop function.

Under the hood of the new 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged oil burner producing a healthy 143bhp of power at 4,000rpm and an impressive 340Nm of max torque between 1,750-2,750rpm. The power is channelled to all the wheels through an eight-speed DSG automatic transmission. According to ARAI, the Tiguan manages to give a mileage of 17.06 kmpl.

On the safety front, the Tiguan gets dual airbags, curtain airbags and side airbags and ABS and EBD as standard. It comes with hill-assist function which holds the vehicle while climbing and declining as well. It also gets an active hood for pedestrian safety.

The Tiguan will set you back Rs. 27.98 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the comfortline variant while the highline costs Rs. 31.38 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Tiguan goes up against the German duo of BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.
