A big shock came upon Volkswagen when National Green Tribunal (NGT) along with the Ministry of Environment & Ministry of Heavy Industries issued a notice on Volkswagen cars for allegedly flouting emission norms. They are hearing a plea, seeking ban on the manufacture & sales of Volkswagen car on the ongoing enquiry over emission of its diesel engine that is scheduled on 23rd December 2015.

Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), found pollution levels from 3 of Volkswagen group cars – Audi A4, Vento & Jetta, to be significantly higher than the figures. The recall is expected to affect a total of 3,20,000 cars including 2,10,000 from Volkswagen, around 80,000 from Skoda’s and 30,000 from Audi.

The 1.6 L four-cylinder TDI, the three-cylinder 1.2 L diesel & the 2.0 L four-cylinder TDI diesel are three main engines that would require recall. Volkswagen claims that a certain hardware update will be made to the 1.6 L unit and 1.2 L mills and a simple software update will fix the issue for the 2.0-litre unit.
