The American automotive brand Jeep launched in India with Wrangler and Grand Cherokee

The iconic brand jeep officially launched in India. The company has launched two models including - the Wrangler Unlimited and the Grand Cherokee SUV.

The vehicles are fully-imported as CBUs from the North American plant.  Currently, Jeep has only two dealerships operational in Ahmedabad and Delhi due to which its market reach will be very limited, however more dealerships in cities like Chennai and Mumbai will start operations in October followed by Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Kochi and Bangalore later in the year. The company has also inaugurated a parts distribution centre in Chakan.

The Wrangler has been launched only in the long wheelbase ‘Unlimited’ trim, powered by a 2.8-litre diesel engine which develops 200hp of power. The engine comes mated with a five-speed automatic gearbox and standard four-wheel drive with heavy duty solid axles and a lockable centre differential.

The Grand Cherokee comes in three trims – Limited, Summit and the high-powered Grand Cherokee SRT, which will also marks the debut of Jeep's ‘SRT’ performance brand in India. The car is powered by a 240hp, 3.0-litre V6 diesel motor paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The high-performance SRT  uses a 475hp, 6.4-litre Hemi V8 petrol motor which also comes paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. All three variants come with a Quadratrack-2 four-wheel-drive system, with the SRT additionally getting high-performance Brembo brakes and active damping suspension.
