Tata Ventures into EV Charging Infrastructure

Tata Power, India's largest integrated power company, has been a frontrunner in technology adoption and innovation while also setting benchmarks in sustainability.

In a bid to stomp ahead of the competition and be future-ready, it has now ventured into setting up an infrastructure for charging electric vehicles in India.

Tata Power determined to be the initial to deal with this and installed its primary electric vehicle charging facility at Vikhroli in Mumbai, Maharashtra. 

Commenting on this, Anil Sardana, CEO & MD, Tata Power, said in the statement, "We are proud and happy with the launch of electrical vehicle charging stations as Tata Power continues to set a high standard in adopting sustainable practices by means of innovative technology, providing customers access to energy-efficient processes."

He additionally said, "We are moving towards clean power for all and it is our endeavor to provide best of the solutions for our country to achieve a greener tomorrow."

The company aims to put up a network to make it easier for people to adopt EVs and be future ready. The adoption of smart charging infrastructure is just a little step in the right direction. Tata Power has taken this inventiveness of providing charging stations along with Mass - Tech Controls.

These chargers would facilitate electric car users to charge their cars (Battery Electric Vehicles such as the Mahindra e2o, Nissan Leaf, and more) at any time safely and suitably. The chargers can moreover monitor the car battery charging status and units consumed while charging a car. While the company hasn?t shared any technical data on what sort of charging speed or power the charging station has.

This is the first step by the homegrown company to help India achieve its super ambitious target of electrifying transportation by 2030. In due course, Tata plans to set up several charging stations across Mumbai and is already in discussion with various stakeholders.

The availability of charging points is sure to encourage more manufacturers to bring in more electric cars and with an electric future in sight; this is definitely a step in the right direction.
