Jeep Launches Grand Cherokee Petrol and Announces Post-GST Prices

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has launched the petrol version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee in India at Rs 75.15 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).

Earlier, the Grand Cherokee was only available with a diesel engine and one had to shell out Rs 1.12 crore (pre-GST, ex-showroom New Delhi) for the performance-oriented SRT version which came with a massive 6.8-litre HEMI V8 petrol engine.

New Jeep Grand Cherokee and the SRT made their world debut at the 2016 New York Motor Show held in March and were later showcased in Europe at the Paris Motor Show in October 2016. Apart from the introduction of the new Grand Cherokee variant, the American automaker has also revealed the post-GST prices of its lineup in the country.

The addition of this new Jeep Cherokee Summit petrol completes Jeep’s portfolio of directly imported SUVs in India. In addition to existing colours like billet silver metallic, bright white, granite crystal pearl and true blue pearl, the new petrol variant is also available with two new colours – velvet red and diamond black crystal.

Under the hood, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit petrol gets a 3.6-litre Pentastar engine that generates 286bhp of power and 347Nm of torque. This powerful engine comes mated to an eight-speed paddle shift automatic transmission.

The ‘Gen II’ automatic transmission claims to offer optimised lubrication which has helped improved clutch durability, shift response and consistency that enables smoother downshifts. The diesel variant of the Grand Cherokee will also get the Gen II 8-speed paddle shift transmission.

In terms of design, the Grand Cherokee Summit petrol gets electro-hydraulic power steering system as a replacement to the electric power steering (EPS) to offer improved handling. Additionally, it also offers three select modes – Normal, Comfort and Sport. The vehicle also gets ParkSense’ – a rear park assist system along with a Start / Stop function. In order to reduce noise and enhance comfort, the entire Jeep range now gets an acoustic windshield.

Interestingly, new Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit petrol is priced exactly the same as the Grand Cherokee Limited diesel which gives rise to a question of whether one should buy the petrol engine powered Jeep.
