German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz has officially launched the petrol variant of its flagship SUV - the GLS400 4MATIC. The SUV is priced at Rs 82.90 lakh (ex-showroom New Delhi), which is only Rs 1 lakh more expensive than the locally assembled GLS 350d.

Outside, GLS400 4MATIC comes equipped with LED headlamps and tail lamps and a large twin-slat grille. The interiors remain unchanged and carry forward the same seven-seater layout including leather upholstery for all three rows, electric seats with memory for the driver as well as co-driver and a panoramic sunroof. It also gets a large eight-inch screen for the infotainment system that is paired with a 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The GLS 400 comes with 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine which develops a powerful 333hp of power and 480Nm of peak torque. The engine is paired to Mercedes new 9-speed automatic transmission and lets you choose different drive modes via the 'Dynamic Select' as well. Driving modes include 'Comfort', 'Sport', 'Individual', 'Slippery' and 'Off-road'. The 4MATIC all-wheel-drive and AIRMATIC air suspension tech are standard on the GLS400. This combination of great power to weight ratio propels the SUV from 0-100kmph in 6.4 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 250kmph.

The closest rivals of GLS 400 are the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and the Range Rover Sport V6 petrol.
