Mahindra & Mahindra, India’s leading SUV manufacturer primarily known for making diesel engine, is planning to offer the option of a petrol variant across its entire passenger cars portfolio from 2018.
The company is currently working on a 1.5-litre petrol engine. Additionally, the Scorpio will be launched with a petrol engine this year, and so will be the XUV500.
The Supreme Court's decision to ban the registration of diesel vehicles with engine capacity over 2,000cc in Delhi-NCR has resulted in a shift in consumer preference to petrol cars. The narrowing gap between petrol and diesel prices is also a big reason why automakers are shifting focus back towards petrol engines.
