The Korean automaker Hyundai will be launching an automatic variant of its popular Elite i20 hatchback. The launch is expected anytime in the next couple of months.

The automatic transmission is likely to be a four-speed unit, paired with a 1.2-litre petrol engine, that develops 83PS of power. Hyundai is looking at pricing the automatic aggressively and might skip some features to make the price lucrative. Prices are likely to start around Rs 6.5 lakh mark.

Right now in India, the car is offered with petrol as well as diesel engine. The petrol variants are powered by a 4-cylinder 1197 cc engine which develops a power output of 81.8 bhp at 6000 rpm and torque of 114 Nm at 4000 rpm. It is paired with the company's traditional 5-speed manual gearbox.

On the other hand, the diesel variants come loaded with a 1.4 L U2 CRDi engine. This 1396 cc engine delivers a maximum power of 88.7 bhp at 4000 rpm with a peak torque of 220 Nm at 2750 rpm. The diesel engine is coupled with a 6-speed manual transmission to maximize fuel efficiency and performance.
