German luxury car manufacturer BMW rolls out 50,000th car from Chennai Plant, a 7 Series

German luxury car manufacturer BMW has rolled out its 50,000th car from its plant situated in Chennai. On the occasion, managing director of the BMW Plant Chennai, Dr Jochen Stallkamp said, “It is with great pride that we are rolling-out the 50,000th car locally produced at BMW Plant Chennai. Each and every BMW that is locally produced is of the same international standards as anywhere else in the world and brings a smile on the faces of our customers.”

The Chennai plant is equipped with advanced manufacturing processes along with state-of-the-art machinery, technology provides all the necessary ingredients to achieve these tough standards and highly skilled employees. Working on role model of ‘Make in India’ initiative, the Bavarian manufacturer has also increased the level of localisation at BMW Plant Chennai by up to 50 percent.

The Chennai plant of BMW currently produces eight different car models. The list includes - BMW 1 Series, the BMW 3 Series, the BMW 3 Series Gran Turismo, the BMW 5 Series, the BMW 7 Series, the BMW X1, the BMW X3 and the BMW X5.

Headquartered in Gurgaon, it is a 100 percent subsidiary of the BMW Group. Till date, BMW Group has invested over Rs 490 crore in India. The wide range of its activities in India include a manufacturing plant in Chennai, a parts warehouse in Mumbai and training centre in Gurgaon NCR.

Currently, BMW India has a wide range of dealer network in the Indian market and over 650 employees.
