2017 BMW 5 Series to launch in India on 29 June, 2017

BMW is all set to launch the all-new 5-series in India on June 29. The new BMW 5 Series is built on the OKL platform, with the chassis being constructed out of a mix of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), magnesium and aluminium.

The longer wheelbase has enhanced the cabin space for the occupants’ comfort. The fresh iDrive system now supports gesture control. It allows you to change the ambient lighting, vehicle setup, audio setup and other settings through the rotary knob, touchscreen or the steering mounted controls. The intelligent remote key fob of the new 5 Series can assist you move your car from the outside, in a straight line.

For Indian market, BMW may offer three engine options, all paired with eight-speed automatic gearboxes. The updated 5 series will be presented with two diesel engines – a 190hp, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit in the 520d and the larger and extra powerful 265hp, 3.0-litre, inline-six under the hood of the 530d. Along with the two diesels will also be a petrol engine.

However, unlike the existing 5-series which was, for a limited time, offered with an 184hp 2.0-litre petrol engine (520i), the new model will be offered as the 530i with a much more potent 252hp 2.0-litre unit – similar to the one seen under the hood of the 330i GT.

The new 5-series will challenge the likes of the Mercedes E-class long-wheelbase, the Audi A6, the Jaguar XF and the Volvo S90.
